Breaking News: Thy Art Is Murder Announce New Album and Release New Single

Thy_Art_Is_Murder_dear_desolation

Late last week, deathcore titans, Thy Art Is Murder, released a brand new single to accompany their upcoming fourth studio album, “Dear Desolation”, which will be released on all platforms August 18th.  The new album, whose sinister artwork can be seen above, is the first album by the group since vocalist CJ McMahon’s brief exit/re-entry with the band.  Despite the internal struggles the band has gone through recently, the sound of the band has been unwavering, and is debatably better than ever.

“Slaves Beyond Death” is the first track released from the upcoming album and it is a great first impression. A fast tempo, chug heavy track filled with a plethora of death growls pretty much sums up the near 4 minute long TAIM track.  Besides being a little too repetitive, I believe “Dear Desolation”, based off what has been heard on “Slaves Beyond Death” alone, has the potential to be the greatest, or at least the second greatest, Thy Art Is Murder album in their discography.  What truly is the most significant aspect of track, that might also reflect on the entire album, is that it seems to be a “transition” track that could showcase Thy Art Is Murder moving from a deathcore genre to a straight up death metal genre.  This genre bridge by an album, which Job For A Cowboy exemplified early on in their career, could be what “Dear Desolation” is remembered for, and if so, the anticipation for the fourth studio album by the Australian metal act would be through the roof.  Personally, I would love to see TAIM eventually become a death metal band, but until more sure to be fantastic singles are released, the speculation of how the band’s sound will evolve will have to be based off just one superb first impression.

The first single, “Slaves Beyond Death”, is attached below!  Of course, as we get closer to “Dear Desolation’s” release date, more reviews and news about the album will be posted here, so stay locked in to Erik’s Album Reviews.  Give the first single a listen, let us know what you think in the comments below, and stay tuned for more reviews and news due out this week!

Urgent Press Conference: System Of A Down Are Currently Recording A New Album

soad-2001

Over the last 24 hours, my news feed has been swarmed with negativity and hatred pertaining to recent events.  However, there has been one news story that completely counteracts these negative posts.  The article discussed an announcement that I have been waiting for years to hear.  System of a Down, one of the most influential metal acts in the history of the genre, and one of my favorite groups of all time, are recording a new album for the first time in over a decade.  After reuniting in 2010, System of a Down embarked on numerous short tours and live appearances, but a new album was never in discussion until now.

The news of this new record in the works surfaced when drummer John Dolymayan confirmed that the rumors were true and that SOAD will be releasing a new album.  He also went on to state that the record has been in the writing and recording process for the last six months and their playing ability is at an all time high, which will result in a more progressed sound designed for the new generation of System of a Down fans, and will not sound like, as Dolymayan goes on to describe, “like ‘Toxicity’ Part 2”.  So far 15 songs have been written for the record, but an estimated release date has not been revealed.  Also, nearly every SOAD band member has shared multiple images through their personal Instagram account of themselves in the studio working on the upcoming System of a Down release!

As a devout SOAD fan, I still can’t believe there will be a sixth studio album by this legendary metal band.  Thankfully, I have already seen SOAD perform live.  Shortly after their reunion they booked a short North American tour, which I was able to attend.  The show easily became one of the greatest concerts I have ever attended, however, the only thing that could top that memorable experience would be to hear new material from the group after waiting at least 12 years for another release.  If you yourself are a massive SOAD fan, let us know what you think about the latest announcement in the comments below and be sure to check back in as more information about album number 6 gets released!

Update: Animals As Leaders Release Third Single Off New Album “The Madness Of Many”

The anticipation continues to grow for the new material by instrumental prog metal group, Animals As Leaders.  If you have been following the page lately, you would know that the genre-defying band, Animals As Leaders, are releasing their fourth studio album a week from today, and it is on pace to be their greatest release to date.  This is an extremely significant statement, especially since “The Joy of Motion” was such a stellar album.  The group originally announced the upcoming release with two singles; the first being a lighter, soothing track titled “The Brain Dance”, and the second single, released shortly after, was a far more heavy and aggressive song called “Arithmophobia”.  These two tracks appear to be the most polarizing songs on the project and give the listener the full range of how light or heavy any track on the album will be.

The third single, released this week titled “Inner Assassins”, appears to be the middle ground of the two singles previously mentioned.  It features both the light sounding, complexing riffing and the upbeat, heavier sections that were emphasized in the first two singles.  “Inner Assassins” sounds like classic Animals As Leaders with the superb songwriting we’ve heard so far on “The Madness of Many” mixed in, which is an extremely prominent sign that the rest of the album will follow this already fantastic song structure.  I will say, however, that the most impressive aspect of this track is actually the mind-numbingly intricate drumming.  Artfully mastering odd time signatures and polyrhythmic sections, while simultaneously adding character to the track and essentially becoming the backbone to the song itself, the performance by Animals As Leaders’ Matt Garstka, is easily my favorite part of the third single.

A handful of phenomenal albums will be released this month, and “The Madness of Many” is sure to be one of them.  If you are equally as excited for the latest record by Animals As Leaders, be sure to visit the site next week to check out the album review for “The Madness of Many”.  Check out the posts about each previous single off the upcoming album below and give “Inner Assassins” a listen as well!
